Privacy

There are two privacy regulations that have received a lot of attention recently: GDPR and CCPA.  GDPR refers to the EU General Data Protection Regulation that went into effect on 25 May 2018. CCPA is the California Consumer Privacy Act which went into effect starting 1 January 2020.   

2ndQuadrant has been GDPR compliant since the regulation went into effect in 2018. Because we don’t meet any of the thresholds for CCPA compliance, 2ndQuadrant is not legally bound by CCPA. 

GDPR

Who is covered?  

GDPR protects the personal data of natural persons residing in a European Union country. When an individual leaves an EU country and travels to a non-EU country, they are no longer protected by GDPR.

Who must comply? 

It doesn’t matter where the business is located and whether or not a business has a base in an EU country. GDPR rules apply if the business collects or processes the personal data of an individual residing in the EU.

GDPR and 2ndQuadrant 

Because 2ndQuadrant processes personal data of persons located both within and outside the EU, we treat all personal data as though it must legally be protected by GDPR.  That is, we make no distinction of where a person resides – we protect all personal data equally, affording all the protections of GDPR regardless of origin.

CCPA

Who is covered? 

CCPA covers residents of California, U.S.A.  

Who must comply? 

CCPA applies to for-profit businesses with customers or employees in California that collect, share, or sell consumers’ personal data.

CCPA and 2ndQuadrant 

One of the key protections of CCPA is that consumers should know whether their personal data is sold or disclosed and to whom. At 2ndQuadrant, we never sell personal data, so we are compliant with CCPA.

Other privacy regulations
