Performance Analysis

PostgreSQL performance on Linux on IBM Z

2ndQuadrant’s OLTP benchmark of an IBM Z mainframe and a comparable Intel Haswell system demonstrated that the IBM platform was able to process roughly twice as many database transactions per core than a comparable Intel Haswell based system with an OLTP type workload.

Whether the workload consists of mostly read-only, write-only or a mix of read and write transaction, the IBM Z13 consistently outperforms the competition.

OLTP Performance benchmark highlights:

  •   2.6 x faster compared to x86 on Read-only test
  •   2.2 x faster compared to x86 on Write-only test
  •   1.7 x faster compared to x86 on DBT-2 TPC-C like benchmark
